Pajaritos Terminal fire extinguished in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz
Emergency crews have successfully extinguished a fire at the Pajaritos Storage and Port Services Terminal (TASP) in the industrial zone of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. The incident lasted nearly 50 hours.
The fire began around 5:50 PM on Wednesday, August 19, following a thunderstorm that reportedly caused a lightning strike on a cryogenic tank (TC-1005) containing LP gas. The strike triggered an explosion and intense flames at the top of the tank.
To manage the emergency, authorities ordered the preventive evacuation of personnel and closed the Coatzacoalcos-Villahermosa highway near the Coatzacoalcos I Bridge. Specialized firefighting teams from Pemex and local civil protection used water curtains and nitrogen to cool the tank and suppress the flames.
According to reports from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), no injuries were reported during the incident. Operations concluded once the fire was fully extinguished and temperatures were stabilized, allowing for the normalization of activities in the area.
