Pakistan Allocates Rs71 billion for Prime Minister's Apna Ghar Housing Scheme

The federal government has earmarked Rs71 billion in subsidies for the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar scheme, aiming to finance 150,000 low‑ and middle‑income homes by June 2027. Under the programme, eligible applicants can obtain up to Rs10 million in financing at a fixed 5 % markup for the first ten years, with repayment periods of up to 20 years and no processing fee.

Since its launch, banks have disbursed more than Rs27 billion in loans, benefiting 65,414 borrowers and creating an outstanding housing finance portfolio of Rs293 billion. Approximately 107,000 applications have been received; about 27,000 have been approved, 13,000 rejected and the rest are under review. The scheme is open to all professions and to holders of CNIC, NICOP and Pakistan Origin Cards, with income verification accepted from salary slips, bank statements, utility bills or mobile‑top‑up records.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reports that the revised framework, introduced in September 2025, raised the maximum loan limit to Rs10 million and introduced the 5 % subsidised markup. An online portal and a helpline are being set up to assist applicants, and banks have been instructed to decide on applications within 15 days.
