Pakistan and Egypt expand agricultural and defense cooperation

Pakistan and Egypt are expanding bilateral cooperation across the agricultural, security, and defense sectors.

In the agricultural sector, Pakistani Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Egyptian Ambassador Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan to discuss strengthening ties in research, technology, and sustainable farming. Pakistan is specifically seeking Egyptian technical expertise to improve its cotton sector, focusing on seed quality, crop management, and increasing yields. Additional areas for collaboration include water-efficient irrigation, biotechnology, climate-smart agriculture, and livestock.

On the security front, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Pakistani Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar discussed ways to enhance defense cooperation and regional stability. The two officials emphasized the need for close coordination to reduce regional escalation. This dialogue occurs as Egypt evaluates the possibility of joining a defense agreement involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, a move currently undergoing legal and constitutional review in Cairo.
