Pakistan announces 355 national civil awards for technology and science leaders
President Asif Ali Zardari has approved 355 national civil awards in Pakistan to recognize outstanding achievements across various sectors. While media coverage often emphasizes politicians and celebrities, this year’s honors highlight significant contributions within the technology, science, and engineering fields.
Key recipients include Dr. Shahid Mahmud, who received the Hilal-i-Imtiaz for his work in ICT, artificial intelligence, and telecom infrastructure. Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Jaffery was awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for her research in computer science and evolutionary computing at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences.
In the fields of spatial data and aerospace, Dr. Urooj Saeed earned the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for her contributions to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Additionally, Yang Baoning of the China Academy of Space Technology was awarded the Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam, underscoring the importance of Sino-Pak partnerships in space technology.
