Pakistan announces emergency aid for Nepal flood victims
Pakistan has announced the provision of emergency relief assistance to Nepal following devastating flash floods and landslides. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep condolences regarding the massive loss of life and property, stating that Pakistan stands with the government and people of Nepal during this crisis.
The process of sending emergency relief supplies has already commenced. The floods, which occurred on August 26, caused significant destruction in areas near the Chinese border, destroying houses, bridges, roads, and power projects. Recent reports indicate the death toll has reached 579, with approximately 2,000 people missing.
Nepal has emphasized the need for specialized technical assistance rather than general search and rescue operations. Required services include extracting individuals trapped in tunnels, restoring communication and transport links, and conducting DNA testing for victim identification.
