Pakistan Army Chief urges Iran to curb Ansar Allah attacks on Saudi energy
Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, has reportedly requested that Iran use its influence over the Ansar Allah group to prevent attacks on Saudi Arabian energy and economic infrastructure. During a telephone conversation with Iranian senior diplomat Abbas Araghchi, Munir sought a negotiated solution to the escalating Middle East conflict, specifically addressing the threat posed by Ansar Allah to Saudi oil facilities.
Reports indicate that Islamabad is mindful of its defense commitments to Riyadh, including the tripartite Mecca defense agreement involving Turkey. While Pakistan has communicated Riyadh's concerns to Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has maintained that Tehran does not interfere in Yemeni affairs, describing Ansar Allah as an independent actor pursuing its own interests.
The discussions occurred amidst heightened regional tensions following claims by a Saudi-led coalition regarding attempted strikes toward Mecca. While sources described the response from Iranian officials as ‘promising,’ the geopolitical situation remains complex as Ansar Allah continues operations along the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait.
