Pakistan avoids June electricity price hike as government stabilises rates

Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy (Power Division) announced that a combination of policy decisions, improved operational efficiency and better load management prevented the projected Rs5‑Rs6 per‑unit increase in electricity tariffs for June 2026. A quarterly tariff adjustment delivered a Rs1.93 per‑unit reduction, while an April fuel‑cost adjustment added another Rs1.73 per unit, resulting in minimal net change and an estimated Rs65 billion saving for consumers. The ministry highlighted actions such as reduced transmission losses, increased allocation of domestic gas, optimisation of the energy mix, and enhanced demand planning that offset pressures from rising global fuel prices, RLNG shortages and regional geopolitical tensions.

These measures aim to maintain stability in Pakistan’s power sector and protect households and businesses from sudden cost spikes while supporting longer‑term system efficiency.
