Pakistan‑Turkey partnership deepens, $5bn target

Overview

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s early‑July state visit to Turkey reaffirmed a bilateral ambition to raise trade from roughly $1.2 billion to $5 billion, backed by Turkish investments exceeding $2 billion and dozens of construction projects. The leaders also pledged cooperation in defence, energy, transport, critical minerals and IT, and pledged solidarity on regional issues.

Continuing that momentum, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced a Pakistan‑Turkey Business Opportunity Conference in Istanbul for 13 August 2026. Backed by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries Haroon Akhtar Khan and ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, the event will host B2B sessions, sector‑specific meetings and a trade‑excellence award ceremony. Organisers aim to convert the $5 billion target into concrete joint‑ventures, technology transfers and expanded rail links, while highlighting Pakistan’s broader economic reforms such as a corporate‑tax cut to 25 percent.
