Pakistan batting coach calls for consistency ahead of tri-series final

Pakistan batting coach Mike Smith has expressed confidence in Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman as the team prepares for the ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka in Lahore. Despite recent struggles, including a heavy eight-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka where Pakistan was bowled out for 110, Smith dismissed concerns regarding Babar Azam’s form, noting the difficulty of establishing oneself at the crease.

Smith also backed Fakhar Zaman, describing him as a world-class player capable of match-winning performances. While Pakistan secured their place in the final after winning their first three matches, the coaching staff emphasized the need for greater batting depth and consistency. This follows a volatile one-wicket victory over England, where Shadab Khan’s unbeaten 113 rescued the team from a collapse at 154 for nine.

The team is focused on improving performance across the entire batting order as they look toward the 2027 Cricket World Cup. Pakistan is scheduled to face Sri Lanka in a remaining league match before the final on October 31.
