Pakistan-China diplomatic ties marked by investment push and 75th anniversary

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, has concluded his diplomatic posting in Beijing, marking his tenure with significant bilateral achievements. During his term, Hashmi spearheaded a business-to-business (B2B) investment initiative that generated approximately $22 billion in proposed investments, joint ventures, and commercial commitments across 21 priority sectors. While Hashmi noted that roughly 30 percent of these commitments have transitioned into formal agreements or physical investments, the initiative included six sector-specific conferences, including one focused on pharmaceuticals and healthcare.

Additionally, Hashmi’s tenure saw the establishment of four new Pakistan Study Centres at Chinese universities to foster academic and cultural partnerships.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Chengdu hosted a reception. The event, presided over by Consul General Tanvir A. Bhatti, featured cultural displays and calligraphy exchanges. Officials from the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress attended, emphasizing the intent to broaden sub-national interactions and cultural exchanges to support the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
