China-Pakistan 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties
Overview
China and Pakistan are conducting various cultural, digital, and academic initiatives to commemorate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Initial celebrations focused on tourism and historical heritage. This included a digital tourism campaign featuring Chinese travel vlogger Hua Yi Cun, who toured northern Pakistani landscapes including Islamabad, Skardu, Khaplu, and Shigar to showcase the region to Chinese audiences. Simultaneously, a delegation from the University of Sargodha visited Luoyang, China, to engage with Silk Road relics and traditional arts through Henan Opera and calligraphy.
Subsequent commemorations shifted toward education, strategic cooperation, and economic investment. High-level discussions, such as the ‘Echo: Youth in Action’ forum, emphasized science, technology, and skills development. The establishment of four new Pakistan Study Centres at Chinese universities has furthered academic partnerships.
Economic cooperation has also seen significant movement. During his tenure in Beijing, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, spearheaded a business-to-business investment initiative that generated approximately $22 billion in proposed investments and commercial commitments across 21 priority sectors, with roughly 30 percent transitioning into formal agreements.
To mark the anniversary, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Chengdu hosted a reception featuring cultural displays and calligraphy exchanges. Officials from the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress attended, emphasizing the intent to broaden sub-national interactions to support the ‘China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership’.
