Pakistan mediates US‑Iran talks amid Middle East escalations

Pakistan’s foreign ministry said negotiations between the United States and Iran are continuing, with a focus on de‑escalation and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. spokesman Tahir Andrabi urged both sides to return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June and to resume technical talks.

Recent U.S. airstrikes targeted dozens of Iranian Revolutionary Guard facilities, killing three Guard members in north‑western Iran. Iran responded with missile launches toward Jordan, a drone strike on Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta that hit two vessels (one U.S.–flagged), and a bombing on Qeshm island that killed a family of three. Jordan reported intercepting Iranian missiles for a second day, while Kuwait said an Iranian strike on a building belonging to a Chinese company killed one person.

Pakistan highlighted its mediating role and called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint while the broader Middle‑East conflict expands to new fronts.
