Pakistan denies Asim Munir visited Iran as Trump envoy

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has rejected claims that Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Iran as an envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump, describing such reports as “misleading and factually incorrect.”

According to spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Munir’s August 24 trip to Tehran was conducted within the context of Pakistan’s ongoing role as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. The visit aimed to facilitate regional de-escalation, address the Middle East crisis, and seek a negotiated settlement to restore stability.

During the visit, Munir met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other high-ranking officials, including the Foreign Minister and Parliament Speaker. Discussions reportedly included efforts to reduce regional tensions and pursue the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The Foreign Office noted that Iranian leadership expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive role in bridging differences between the United States and Iran.
