Pakistan extends ban on Indian aircraft through July 24

Pakistan has extended its airspace ban on Indian civilian and military aircraft until July 24, according to a Notice to Airmen issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority. The ban prohibits all Indian‑registered, operated, owned or leased aircraft from using Pakistani airspace and replaces the previous restriction that was set to expire on June 24.

The airspace closure, in place since late April 2025 after heightened tensions following a deadly attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian‑occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has forced Indian carriers to reroute flights, increasing flight durations and operational costs. Air India Group, the largest Indian airline, recorded losses exceeding $2 billion for the 2025‑26 fiscal year, reflecting the financial strain caused by the ban and broader regional instability.
