Pakistan focuses on entrepreneurship and freelancing for economic growth

Pakistan is facing a critical economic shift where entrepreneurship and freelancing are being identified as essential drivers for job creation and economic stability. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) currently comprise over 90 percent of the country's total businesses and are vital contributors to employment and innovation, according to the State Bank of Pakistan.

However, entrepreneurs face significant obstacles, including limited access to credit, regulatory hurdles, inadequate skills, and weak infrastructure. To address these issues, there is a call to reform the education system to prioritize entrepreneurship literacy and job creation over traditional salaried employment.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori highlighted the growing importance of the digital economy, noting that freelancers can provide services such as software development, graphic design, and digital marketing to international clients. He emphasized that with improved internet access and proper training, the country's large youth population can leverage online work to increase national earnings and support thousands of families.
