Pakistan PTI and government hold talks ahead of October 4 march

The federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) concluded a first round of negotiations on Friday at the National Assembly Speaker’s chamber. The talks, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, aimed to address political tensions ahead of PTI’s planned long march to Islamabad on October 4. The first session ended without a breakthrough, with a second round of discussions scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

PTI’s primary demands include the release of party founder Imran Khan, access to medical examinations by private doctors, and the release of arrested party members and relatives. The government delegation, which included representatives from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has demanded that PTI withdraw its call for the long march as a prerequisite for progress.

Security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were a central point of discussion. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed negotiators on the deteriorating law and order situation and criticized the provincial government's handling of terrorism. In response, PTI leaders argued the discussions should focus on political disputes rather than security issues. The federal government has also considered the possibility of imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the march proceeds.
