Pakistan implements maritime reforms and port digitalization
Pakistan is implementing significant reforms and digitalization within its port system to enhance trade transparency and operational efficiency. Under the Prime Minister Task Force for Maritime Reforms, a National Ports Master Plan has been developed, introducing a uniform port tariff system to promote competition.
Key technological advancements include the introduction of a modern cargo management system at Karachi ports. The implementation of a single-window and faceless customs assessment system has significantly reduced cargo clearance times from 53 hours to 18 hours. By connecting customs, banks, and port operators on a shared digital platform, the government aims to modernize maritime operations and improve global trade connectivity.
