Preliminary reports from rescue officials and hospital spokespersons suggest the fire may have been triggered by an explosion of an air-conditioning unit compressor or a short circuit. At the time of the blaze, approximately 15 to 16 infants were in the nursery; officials confirmed that only one baby was successfully rescued, while others were left in critical condition or died from burns and smoke inhalation.

Emergency responders, including six fire brigade vehicles and four ambulances, arrived at the scene shortly after the alarm was raised around 6:45 a.m. local time. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the tragedy, describing the loss as irreparable.
