Kohat suicide attack kills 31 in Pakistan police compound

A suicide attack targeting a police residential compound in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has left at least 31 people dead, including 16 police officers, and more than 100 others injured. The attack involved a vehicle laden with explosives being driven into a mosque within the historic Old Police Lines complex during prayer time.

Security forces reported that the explosion caused partial building collapses and triggered ongoing firefights with militants who attempted to enter the complex. While no group has officially claimed responsibility, suspicions have been directed toward organizations with links to Al-Qaeda.

The incident exacerbates existing tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of sheltering militant groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has rejected these claims, asserting that Pakistan's internal unrest is not the fault of Afghanistan and warning against Pakistani military incursions into Afghan territory.
