Pakistan officials accuse PTI of facilitating terrorism amid regional instability
Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has intensified political criticism against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing the party of being a ‘B-team’ of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Tarar alleged that the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has facilitated terrorists over the last decade and failed to take ownership of counterterrorism operations. He further claimed the provincial government rejected federal offers of modern vehicles for the KP police and has failed to condemn cross-border firing from Afghanistan.
Amidst a surge in militant violence, including a recent suicide bombing in Dera Ismail Khan that killed at least 13 people, the federal government has warned of potential constitutional measures. Adviser Rana Sanaullah indicated that an emergency could be imposed if the PTI’s planned march reaches Islamabad on October 4.
Simultaneously, Tarar addressed regional stability, urging the Afghan interim government to abandon a ‘militant mindset’ in favor of a statesmanlike approach to facilitate trade and peace. Within the PTI, internal debates continue regarding the upcoming October 4 march, with some leaders warning the demonstration could turn violent or lead to the dissolution of the provincial assembly.
