Pakistan plans to divide each province into three administrative units

Federal Communications Minister and PPP president Abdul Aleem Khan said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's administrative‑reform proposals are "highly relevant and timely." The plan calls for every Pakistani province to be split into three units – North, Central and South – while keeping existing provincial names. Khan argued that the new units would preserve historic and cultural identities, shorten the distances citizens must travel for basic services, and allow chief secretaries, IGs and high courts to deliver more effective and faster administration. He added that the restructuring would strengthen national unity and promote balanced economic development across all regions.

The proposal reflects growing concerns about population growth and administrative capacity, and signals a shift from previous political rhetoric toward concrete governance reforms.
