Pakistan prepares for 2027 SCO Heads of State Summit

Pakistan is initiating preparations for the 2027 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Summit, which is scheduled to be hosted in Islamabad. On August 19, 2025, Pakistan’s National Coordinator for SCO Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Faisal, convened a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss organizational matters related to the upcoming chairmanship.

The preparatory meeting included ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from various SCO member states, including representatives from Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Notably, the Indian Chargé d’affaires, Dr. Satianjal Pandey, attended the session to discuss the multilateral summit requirements.

This follows Pakistan’s previous hosting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government summit in October 2024, which included a visit by Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to Islamabad.
