Lahore roof collapse kills 14 children, injures five

At a tuition centre in Kahna, a suburb of Lahore, Pakistan, the roof of the building collapsed while dozens of students were attending classes. Rescue teams recovered at least 14 dead children and five injured pupils, along with a teacher, and transferred the wounded to hospitals.

Provincial officials said two people were detained in connection with the accident – the contractor responsible for recent construction work and another individual. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow, sent condolences to the families and ordered that the victims receive the best possible medical care. The tragedy highlights Pakistan’s recurring problem of building‑safety violations and the use of substandard materials, which has previously caused fatal collapses, such as a five‑storey building failure in Karachi in July 2025 that killed 27 people.
