Pakistan security forces killed 15 militants during an attempted cross-border infiltration into North Waziristan. The military identified the group as “Fitna-al-Khawarij,” a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The engagement, which lasted approximately 36 hours, began during the night between August 31 and September 1. The Pakistani military alleged that the militants were sponsored by India, an accusation both India and Afghanistan have historically denied.

Following the operation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for their professionalism and resolve. Sharif emphasized that the “Azm-i-Istehkam” counterterrorism campaign would continue until all threats are eliminated.

The incident occurs amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry recently stated that progress in bilateral relations with Kabul depends on receiving “verifiable, written assurances” regarding militant activity within Afghanistan.
