Pakistan security forces kill militants in North Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan
Pakistani security forces have conducted several intelligence-based operations (IBO) targeting Fitna al-Khawarij militants, a term used for members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). In North Waziristan, an operation resulted in the deaths of five militants and left two others injured.
In the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a separate operation killed three terrorists. These actions occur amid a broader surge in militant violence; data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies indicates that militant attacks in Pakistan rose by 13% in September 2026 compared to August, reaching a total of 225 attacks.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have commended the security forces for their efforts. The government has emphasized that counter-terrorism operations will continue under the Azm-i-Istehkam vision until terrorism is completely eliminated.
