Pakistan urges dialogue with India over water treaty and calls for Middle East ceasefire compliance

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar urged India to resolve all disputes through dialogue and warned against unilateral suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, stressing that water is a lifeline for 240 million people and essential to Pakistan’s agriculture and economy. He called the treaty a cornerstone of regional stability and warned that violations set a dangerous precedent in international relations.

Dar also appealed to all parties in the Middle East to uphold the U.S.–Iran cease‑fire agreement, emphasizing the need for continuous communication channels. In calls with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Bahrain’s foreign minister, he highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, the Islamabad MoU, and expressed condolences for a recent Saudi helicopter crash. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and regional peace.
