MT Honour 25 crew rescued after Somali hijacking

The crew of the Panama-flagged oil tanker MT Honour 25 has been rescued following a hijacking in Somali waters that began on April 22 near Hafun. The vessel was held by pirates for approximately five months.

On September 29, 2026, Puntland security forces conducted an armed operation to rescue the crew. Indonesian officials reported that the release was facilitated through quiet diplomacy and intensive cross-border coordination with the Somali government and the ship's owners. The Indonesian government emphasized that it did not meet any pirate demands, citing international regulations and the risk of encouraging future hijackings.

Four Indonesian crew members, including Captain Ashari Samadikun, were repatriated to Indonesia on October 6, 2026, arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Meanwhile, three Pakistani crew members were flown to Addis Ababa, with plans to depart for Karachi on October 7. The incident resulted in the deaths of five crew members, including three Pakistani nationals, one Indian, and one Myanmar national.
