Five Pakistani soldiers killed in Balochistan clash, seven militants also dead

A joint operation by the Pakistan Army and the Balochistan Frontier Corps in the Barkhan district of Balochistan resulted in the deaths of five soldiers, including an army major, and the elimination of seven militants, according to the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operation, carried out in the Markham‑Nosham area, was aimed at clearing insurgents that Islamabad alleges are backed by India. The outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack on the troops, describing the militants killed as members of “Fitna al‑Hindustan.”

The ISPR stated that weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the militants. This clash follows a series of recent security actions in the province, which has long faced a low‑level insurgency from separatist groups and the Pakistani Taliban. The incident underscores the ongoing volatility in Pakistan’s resource‑rich but sparsely populated Balochistan region.
