Pakistan Army Chief Munir meets Iranian leaders in Tehran

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for high-level meetings with Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf. Accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Munir is participating in diplomatic efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States to prevent further regional conflict.

During the visit, Iranian officials reiterated a hardened stance regarding negotiations with Washington. Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei stated that Iran will not allow any enriched nuclear material to leave the country, describing it as a national asset. Iranian leadership emphasized that trust can only be restored if the United States fulfills seven specific conditions, which include lifting sanctions on oil exports, ending the naval blockade of Iranian ports, and ceasing hostilities across the region.

In addition to mediation efforts, Munir addressed bilateral issues, noting that recent technical problems at the Pakistan-Iran border have been resolved and the crossings have reopened. Pakistan continues to act as a key intermediary, following the framework established by the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in June.
