Palacio de Bellas Artes hosts large-scale Kati Horna retrospective

The Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City has opened “Kati Horna. Lo insólito es lo cotidiano,” the first large-scale retrospective dedicated to the photographer, photojournalist, and visual artist Kati Horna (1912–2000).

Organized by the Mexican Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), the exhibition features approximately 205 photographs, plastic works, documents, and correspondence. The collection highlights Horna’s European origins, her perspective during the Spanish Civil War, her most famous photo essays, and her creative connections with artists such as Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, and Pedro Friedeberg.

The exhibition is organized into four sections: her formative years in Europe, her wartime testimony, her photographic series and documentary records, and her creative networks. The show will remain open to the public until February 7, 2027.
