Palacio de las Academias recovery begins after earthquake damage
Red Historia Venezuela has joined efforts with the National Academy of History and civil society to begin recovery operations at the Palacio de las Academias following earthquakes on June 24.
Authorities have presented a damage assessment and initiated debris removal and building conservation. Efforts include using a telescopic crane to remove fragments of the main turret that collapsed onto the archive roof. These fragments will be preserved to maintain the building’s architectural identity during upcoming reconstruction.
Additionally, historical artworks and other high-value heritage items have been packed to prevent deterioration. The recovery process is supported by the German Gerda Henkel Stiftung, which has provided essential resources for the preservation of Venezuela’s cultural heritage.
