Venezuelan cultural heritage earthquake recovery

Overview

Following earthquakes in Venezuela on June 24, efforts to recover and rebuild damaged cultural and artistic infrastructure have commenced.

A coalition of cultural organizations, including Impetu Dance Studio and CLAS Producciones, launched the ‘Aplausos de Pie’ initiative. This project aims to rebuild at least 10 art academies and training spaces, with construction expected to begin between mid-August and September.

Simultaneously, recovery operations have begun at the Palacio de las Academias. In collaboration with Red Historia Venezuela and the National Academy of History, teams have started debris removal and building conservation. This includes the careful removal of turret fragments to preserve the building’s architectural identity and the packing of historical artworks. These preservation efforts are supported by the German Gerda Henkel Stiftung.
