Palangka Raya deploys oxygen buses to combat forest fire smoke
The Palangka Raya City Government has expanded its mobile oxygen bus service to four units to assist residents suffering from respiratory issues caused by forest and land fires (karhutla). The expansion follows high public demand and significant enthusiasm for the service.
Each bus is equipped with six oxygen tanks and staffed by medical personnel. The service provides free oxygen therapy, inhalation therapy, and the distribution of masks and vitamins. Medical staff also conduct blood pressure checks for residents experiencing dizziness.
The buses operate Monday through Friday, with morning and afternoon shifts. While they follow designated routes, officials noted that routes can be adjusted to target specific areas where smoke density is particularly high or upon direct requests from residents.
Health officials reported that the service has been heavily utilized by vulnerable groups, including the elderly and children under five, many of whom have already contracted acute respiratory infections (ISPA).
