Palangka Raya maintains emergency status amid forest fire risks

Authorities in Palangka Raya have maintained the emergency response status for forest and land fires (karhutla) despite recent rainfall. While three days of rain have helped moisten peatlands and naturally extinguished some hotspots, officials warn that precipitation has been uneven.

Heri Pauzi, Head of Prevention and Preparedness at the Palangka Raya BPBD, stated that personnel and firefighting equipment remain on high alert to prevent a resurgence of fires if weather conditions turn hot and dry again. Current monitoring efforts are concentrated in the Jekan Raya, Sebangau, Bukit Batu, and Pahandut districts.

In a separate effort to combat regional fire risks, PT PLN (Persero) UIP3B Kalimantan has provided aid to the Banjarbaru BPBD through its Disaster Preparedness Village Program. The assistance includes personal protective equipment, vitamins, and water tanks to support field officers and local communities during the September to October 2026 period.
