Palangka Raya reports two separate fires and explosions
Two separate fire incidents occurred in Palangka Raya, Indonesia, on Friday, October 2, 2026.
A vacant wooden house on Jalan Teuku Umar was destroyed by fire following loud explosions. Witnesses reported hearing a loud initial blast followed by smaller explosions, which caused panic among local residents. The building had reportedly been unoccupied for approximately six months.
In a separate incident on Jalan Talampe, a swiftlet nest building and an adjacent caretaker's house were consumed by flames. Authorities believe the fire originated from nearby vegetation land and spread to the structures. Firefighters faced difficulties due to narrow access roads and the height of the building. Material losses for the swiftlet facility are estimated to be around 50 million rupiah.
