Palangka Raya schools implement limited in-person learning due to haze
Schools in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, have resumed limited in-person learning as of October 29, 2026, following disruptions caused by haze from forest and land fires. The policy applies to both public and private institutions, covering kindergarten, elementary, and junior high schools, as well as non-formal education centers.
To mitigate health risks from unhealthy air quality, specifically PM2.5 concentrations, the Palangka Raya Education Office has implemented several safety measures. School hours will begin at 07:30 WIB with shortened durations, and outdoor activities must be strictly limited. Students and staff are required to wear masks, and parents are encouraged to provide sufficient drinking water for their children.
Acting Head of the Palangka Raya Education Office, Jayani, stated that these arrangements may change based on evolving air quality conditions. Schools are instructed to monitor official government data daily and prioritize essential learning materials to maintain educational goals while minimizing exposure to pollution.
