Palantir CEO Alex Karp criticizes France's digital sovereignty push

Palantir CEO Alex Karp has criticized France’s pursuit of digital sovereignty, arguing that current regulatory restrictions are counterproductive for both France and Europe. Speaking on the sidelines of a G20 gathering in North Carolina, Karp suggested that sovereignty decisions are being made by individuals lacking the technical expertise required to evaluate them.

The comments follow France’s decision to replace Palantir’s data analysis software at its domestic intelligence agency, the DGSI, with the French provider ChapsVision. Karp warned that relying on domestic intermediaries to deploy closed American or Chinese AI models provides only an illusion of protection, describing the practice as the technical equivalent of “an afternoon tryst without protection.”

Karp emphasized that while there are legitimate technical concerns regarding technology dependence, the current regulatory environment is driven by fearmongering rather than substantive issues. He noted that France is a vital economic and cultural pillar in Europe and urged for regulation that provides actual assistance rather than hindrance.
