Palazzo Ducale di Genova and Musée Matisse announce major art exhibitions
The Palazzo Ducale di Genova has announced a major upcoming exhibition titled ‘Renoir, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne – 200 anni di Arte dalla Collezione Scharf’. Running from October 16, 2026, to May 2, 2027, the exhibition will feature over 140 masterpieces from the Scharf Collection, marking the first time many of these works will be shown in Italy.
The Scharf Collection, a significant German private collection, spans various movements including Realism, Impressionism, Cubism, and contemporary art. The collection’s history is rooted in the Berlin collection of Otto Gerstenberg, focusing on the pioneers of French Modernism and the avant-garde.
In France, the Musée Matisse in Nice will host an exhibition titled ‘Henri Matisse – Alex Katz. Le silence de la peinture’ from October 28, 2026, to January 18, 2027. The project creates a dialogue between the works of Henri Matisse and the contemporary American artist Alex Katz, exploring shared aesthetic values regarding the essential nature of painting.
