Palermo commemorates 40 years since murder of child Claudio Domino
Palermo has held commemorations to mark the 40th anniversary of the murder of Claudio Domino, an 11-year-old boy killed by the mafia in 1986. The child was shot at close range while playing in the San Lorenzo district.
Local officials, including Mayor Roberto Lagalla and Deputy Mayor Brigida Alaimoche, emphasized the importance of memory as a tool for education and the promotion of legality. Lagalla described the event as a “wound that time cannot erase,” while Alaimoche called the remembrance a duty to ensure new generations understand the profound damage caused by organized crime.
Historical accounts suggest the murder may have been a retaliation against Domino's parents, whose company had been awarded a cleaning contract for the Ucciardone courtroom during the Maxiprocesso trials, or potentially due to the child being a witness to drug-related activities.
