Claudio Domino death 40th anniversary commemorations

Palermo and Capaci organized a series of commemorative events from October 6 to 9 to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Claudio Domino. Domino was an 11-year-old boy killed by Cosa Nostra on October 7, 1986.

The program, supported by the Municipality of Palermo, included activities such as planting an olive tree at the Capaci Regional Memory Park and a puppet theater performance. The central commemoration took place on October 7 in via Claudio Domino, involving local schools and high-ranking officials, including Mayor Roberto Lagalla and the President of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission, Chiara Colosimo.

During the ceremonies, officials emphasized memory as a tool for education and the promotion of legality. Mayor Lagalla described the event as a “wound that time cannot erase,” while Deputy Mayor Brigida Alaimoche stated that remembrance is a duty to ensure new generations understand the damage caused by organized crime. Historical accounts suggest the 1986 murder may have been retaliation against Domino's parents regarding a cleaning contract or due to the child witnessing drug-related activities.
