Palermo faces potential loss of millions in urban regeneration funds
Progetto Civico Italia has raised concerns regarding the potential loss of significant PNRR funds in Palermo. Cesare Mattaliano, the coordinator for the Palermo metropolitan area, criticized the municipal administration for failing to secure resources intended for urban regeneration and childcare services.
Approximately 20 million euros earmarked for three strategic projects—Villa Turrisi, the mouth of the Oreto, and the former landing of Vergine Maria—are at risk. Additionally, roughly 4 million euros designated for nurseries may no longer be available. Mattaliano has requested a formal hearing with the Mayor in the City Council to demand accountability, a clear timeline, and explanations for the delays that have prevented these funds from being converted into public works and services.
