In Sicily, the management and allocation of National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) funds have come under scrutiny across different municipalities.

In Sciacca, conservation and safety works are underway at the churches of Santa Maria dello Spasimo and San Francesco di Paola, supported by €2.2 million in PNRR funding and local municipal resources. However, in Siracusa’s Ortigia district, authorities have faced formal complaints regarding potential oversight lapses. Allegations suggest that renovation work at Via Vittorio Veneto may be proceeding without required signage or permits, potentially involving unauthorized structural changes to protected buildings.

In Palermo, the situation involves the potential loss of significant resources. Progetto Civico Italia has warned that approximately €20 million intended for urban regeneration projects—including Villa Turrisi and the mouth of the Oreto—as well as €4 million for childcare services, are at risk due to administrative delays. Local coordinators have called for formal hearings to demand accountability and timelines for these stalled public works.
