Conca d’Oro shopping center in Palermo begins fire recovery plan
Efforts to reopen the Conca d’Oro shopping center in Palermo following a fire on September 1 are underway. The board of curators for Compal Srl, the center's owner, has established a timeline for businesses to return. Shops located in the “white zone”—areas unaffected by the fire—are scheduled to begin reopening by October 31.
Other areas of the complex have been categorized by damage level. The “yellow zone” includes premises partially affected, with merchants expecting updates by mid-October once common areas and emergency exits are secured. The “red zone” contains areas directly hit by flames, which will face longer delays pending safety works.
Regional authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Edy Tamajo, the Regional Assessor for Productive Activities, announced a meeting scheduled for September 28 to be held directly at the facility. This meeting aims to coordinate with the curators and stakeholders to facilitate the resumption of activities while ensuring safety standards are met. The reopening process comes amid concerns regarding the departure of certain tenants, such as Risparmio Casa and Iquos, due to restoration costs and timelines.
