Palermo: Santa Cita Church and Lanza Crypt reopen after restoration
The Santa Cita Church and the Lanza Crypt in Palermo have reopened to the public following the completion of restoration works. Located in the Loggia district, the church sits opposite the Alessandro Scarlatti Conservatory.
Originally founded in the early 14th century by the Lucchese merchant Michele Trentino, the site has a complex history. It likely began as a single-room oratory with an attached hospital. Over the centuries, the complex underwent various transformations, including becoming a convent for Dominican fathers and later being expropriated in 1850 to serve as a military hospital and subsequently a barracks.
