Palestine Convoy returns to Turkey after Iraq border delay

The Palestine Convoy, consisting of activists from various European countries, has returned to Turkey after being held at the Ibrahim Khalil Border Crossing in Iraq for six days. The group had originally departed from Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the intention of traveling to the West Bank.

The convoy entered Turkey via the Habur Border Crossing on August 11. However, during transit through the Iraqi border, passport processing for the vehicles was suspended after only one bus was permitted entry. In response, activists set up tents in the buffer zone between the two border crossings to protest the delay.

Convoy spokesperson Dr. Hüseyin Durmaz stated that the group achieved its primary objectives: preventing the West Bank from becoming a ‘new Gaza’, bringing global attention back to the situation in Gaza, and fostering new social solidarity through activist meetings. He noted that while this field action has ended, the movement will continue through new legal, digital, and strategic initiatives.
