Palestine Convoy returns to Turkey after Iraq border delay

Overview

The Palestine Convoy Organisation Team’s 28‑day non‑violent journey, which began in Srebrenica on 25 July 2026, entered Turkey at the İpsala border on 30 July after crossing Albania and Greece. Organizers noted that Israeli intelligence had labeled the Istanbul stop a “high‑risk” event.

After entering Iraq, the convoy was held at the Ibrahim Khalil Border Crossing. Convoy Coordinator Ali Cengiz reported that the group had been prevented from proceeding since 12 August, facing extreme weather conditions with temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius. Activists set up tents in the buffer zone to protest the suspension of passport processing for their vehicles.

Following a six-day delay at the border, the convoy has returned to Turkey via the Habur Border Crossing. Spokesperson Dr. Hüseyin Durmaz stated that while the field action has ended, the group achieved its objectives of bringing global attention to Gaza and preventing the West Bank from becoming a “new Gaza.” The movement intends to continue through new legal, digital, and strategic initiatives.
