Palestine faces severe heat wave as temperatures surge above seasonal norms

From Thursday 30 July 2026, the Palestinian Meteorological Authority warned of a severe, dry heat wave across most of the territory. Temperatures are expected to rise 6‑7 °C above the annual average, with light to moderate westerly‑northwesterly winds and a modest sea‑state.

The extreme conditions will continue through Friday 31 July and into Saturday 1 August, with no significant change in heat levels. Officials highlighted health and safety risks, including prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours (11 a.m.–4 p.m.), heightened fire danger in areas with dry vegetation, and the danger of children or elderly persons being trapped in overheated, sealed vehicles. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during the hottest periods.
