Palestinian civilians endure ongoing violence and hardship in Gaza and the West Bank
Violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank has escalated, with attacks on civilians, property destruction, intimidation and forced displacement reported over recent months. Western governments—including Australia, Canada, France, Norway and the United Kingdom—announced new sanctions targeting Israeli individuals and entities linked to settlement expansion and settler violence. Activist Mosadeq Sahebdin warned that the West Bank violence is part of a broader system of occupation and impunity, describing it as an extension of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In Gaza, despite a cease‑fire that began in October 2025, Israeli strikes continue almost daily. Amid the ongoing conflict, a Gaza family rebuilt a 40‑square‑metre wooden house after their previous home was destroyed. The family spent about 25 days constructing the modest dwelling with limited tools and no electricity, describing it as a small dream of stability and privacy. Peace negotiations on the second phase of a proposed plan are under way in Cairo, underscoring the tenuous humanitarian situation in the enclave.
