Palestinian detainees: Over 24,000 arrested since 2023

Since 2023, Israeli authorities have arrested more than 24,000 Palestinians, including approximately 3,600 since the start of 2026. Reports from the Palestinian Prisoners and Released Prisoners Affairs Commission indicate that many arrests occurred following October 7, 2023, through home raids and military checkpoints.

Currently, over 9,400 Palestinians are held in prisons. This population includes approximately 94 to 99 women and more than 350 minors. Administrative detainees, who are held without formal charges, exceed 3,244 individuals. The Palestine Prisoner Studies Center reported that roughly 2,000 children have been arrested since the conflict in Gaza began, with some as young as 10 years old.

Prison conditions have reportedly deteriorated significantly. Detainees have documented severe weight loss due to food shortages, the spread of skin diseases like scabies in Ofer prison, and physical abuse during raids involving rubber bullets, gas, and dogs. Testimonies include instances of physical assault and the use of cigarettes to burn detainees. The studies center also noted that legal changes over the last five years have facilitated longer detention periods and expanded interrogation methods for minors.
