Palestinian Doctor Adnan el‑Burş Dies in Israeli Prison After Alleged Torture

Palestinian doctor Adnan el‑Burş, who worked at Gaza’s Shifa Hospital, was seized by Israeli forces during a raid in December 2023 and transferred to several Israeli detention facilities, ultimately Ofer Prison in the West Bank. Former Palestinian detainee Osman Said Ahmed Said told Turkish media that el‑Burş was subjected to severe beatings and two rapes by prison guards, and that these abuses led to his death on 19 April 2024.

The human‑rights platform İçeri Bak, formed by activists, lawyers and journalists, held a press conference in Istanbul with former Gaza prisoners to expose the conditions of over 9,600 Palestinian inmates. They reported that since the October 2023 conflict, at least 36 prisoners have died while in captivity, and that families of 18 of those detainees have not received the bodies. The group also accused Israeli authorities of blocking any investigation into el‑Burş’s death.
